High Speed

Dragados has played a major role in the development of the high speed rail (HSR) network in Spain, which, with more than 1,930 miles in length, is the second largest in the world. We have constructed more than 600 miles of rail substructure, 1,555 miles of track, 99.5 miles of HSR tunnels, and numerous HSR stations for the Spanish HSR System.

Our involvement in HSR began in 1988. Since then, we have completed 41 major HSR projects, and, in the last 10 years, we have designed and constructed 12 major projects in Spain and France.

Our experience in the development and execution of significant HSR and major rail infrastructure projects has given us a thorough understanding of the preparation, planning, specifications and contract requirements that make these major projects a success.
 

And, in the last 10 years, our major HSR projects have also included the construction of HSR stations at Atocha, in Madrid, and Sagrera and Sants in Barcelona, as well as the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the existing rail facilities.

The following projects, which also include tunneling, viaducts, track and electrification, highlight Dragados’ work on the Spanish High Speed network.

  • High Speed Train, Madrid- Barcelona-French Border. 347 miles
  • High Speed Train Madrid-Sevilla. 168 miles
  • High Speed Train, Madrid-Valladolid 120 miles
  • High Speed Train, Madrid-Valencia 455 miles.

One of the most well-known international HSR projects performed by Dragados is the Figueras-Perpignan line that connects the Spanish High-Speed Rail network and the French HSR System. The project includes a 5.2 mile tunnel, known as El Pertús Tunnel, which crosses the Spanish-French border under the Pyrenees mountains.

And in the United States, Dragados is leading the design and construction of the 65.6-mile Fresno to Bakersfield section of the Los Angeles to San Francisco HSR line, which is the first High Speed Rail in the country.
