Alamillo Bridge

Sevilla, Spain

Designed by the renowned architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava, the Alamillo Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that stands out for the harmonious but striking and unusual design. The bridge has one span, and its sole tower, a structural steel box structure partially filled with concrete which is located at one of the bridge abutments and tilted 32⁰ from the vertical plane of the bridge, counterbalances the weight of the 200 m span bridge structure without the need for backstays. The deck structure includes a central, hexagonal structural steel box and a series of steel ribs located at mid-depth of the box that extend to both sides of the structure and support a concrete slab pavement
